A training exercise for Yarmouth RNLI turned into a rescue last night (Thursday).
Yarmouth’s Severn class all weather lifeboat, Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer), was tasked to launch by HM Coastguard at 9.06pm to a boat with engine failure.
As Yarmouth RNLI’s volunteer crew were about to sit down for their post training crew supper, the pagers were sounded and they were quickly heading back to the lifeboat in response to a call for help.
The casualty was located south of the Needles, all three crew on board were safe and the lifeboat was able to escort the boat back to the safety of Yarmouth Harbour.
On arrival in Yarmouth, the sailors were met by local coastguard teams and given further support and safety advice.
Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat refuelled and was ready for service at 10.45pm.
