Victorious Bank Holiday Weekend Sees Thousands Flock To Southsea

The tenth annual Victorious Festival shook the foundations of Southsea Common over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Headlined by the likes of Sam Fender, Stereophonics, Paolo Nutini and Bastille, the three-day event also featured stellar names such as James, Nothing But Thieves, The Wombats and Coach Party.

An estimated 150,000 people attended the weekend according to festival director James Ralls, with warm weather amplifying the sense of merriment.

It wasn't only the music that made the family-friendly festival pop off at the seams though, with pockets of interactivity available for those looking for hands on activity.

With everything easily accessible and the glory of Southsea Castle a fitting backdrop for such a grandiose spectacle, Victorious was a welcome denouement to the south coast's major music festivals for this season.

June saw the Isle of Wight Festival kick the summer into gear, before the likes of Brighton Pride and Love Supreme took centre stage, blazing a stimulating trail for this PO5 gathering.

Three highlights of this year's Victorious Festival

Bastille's Saturday night set

The Londoners blasted out the anthemic Pompeii (temporarily re-christened 'Pompey') to close Saturday night on the Castle Stage.

The iconic track provided a parasol for widespread Karaoke, with the quartet seemingly more sought out than Paolo Nutini in the battle of the Saturday night headliners.

Natty on the World Music Stage

The California born reggae/ska star brought bundles of energy and positive vibes to one of the 15 stages.

Interacting with the crowd with effortless spontaneity, it was impossible not to feel uplifted by his intoxicating vivacity.

Random sights (and sites)

Be it trees replete with knitted clothing, stony faces or cartwheeling saxophonists, this was a delightfully eccentric affair...

Oh, and I also got to hold the FA Cup (below)!
