£2K Given To 'Amazing' Animal Rescue Charity On Isle Of Wight

Martin Gomez from Friends of the Animals.

£2,000 has been awarded to an animal rescue charity on the Isle of Wight.

Friends of the Animals in Newport has been awarded the money to recognise the 'amazing' work they have been doing since the start of the pandemic.

In November, the charity "nearly lost everything" after it was the centre of a suspected arson attack, as previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary gave an update on the case and said:

"This incident was thoroughly investigated and has now been filed pending any further information coming to light."

No one has been arrested in connection with the fire, which happened in November last year.

The charity, which formed in 1990, rehomes animals and pays towards veterinary treatment. It relies on donations from the public.

It is one of 278 animal rescue centres across the country chosen by Pets At Home that will receive the money.

Pets At Home has supported pet charities since the first lockdown last March by donating £2.75m in grants to rescue centres up and down the country.
