97-Year-Old Man Recovering After Mobility Scooter Goes Over Needles Cliff

A 97-year-old man is reported to have made a recovery following an incident which left him with injuries last week.

Police, Air Ambulance and Coastguard teams were called to a concern for welfare on Needles Battery Road at around 4pm last Wednesday (June 28) after the man's mobility scooter reportedly went over the edge of a cliff face.

The man was subsequently taken into the care of the ambulance service.

HM Coastguard were first to respond to the incident at The Needles.

At around 4pm Coastguard Rescue Teams from Needles and Ventnor were sent to the scene, alongside Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

The Ambulance Service confirmed that one frontline ambulance was deployed to an incident, with the patient conveyed to St Mary's Hospital with minor injuries.
