"A Huge Thank You!" - Successful Appeal Ensures Walk The Wight WILL Go Ahead

Walk the Wight will go ahead this weekend after Mountbatten received a huge response to its plea for volunteers.

The charity issued an urgent appeal for around an extra 100 volunteers live on Isle of Wight Radio this morning (Tuesday).

CEO Nigel Hartley said around 100 volunteers were needed to help make the event - and keep those participating - safe.

Although numbers are still being counted, Mr Hartley said since coming on air, enough people have come forward to ensure the show will go on.

He said:

“From the bottom of our hearts, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in our incredible Island community who has come forward to help us.

“This has been an extraordinary response and has given us all a huge lift ahead of Sunday.

“We have faced so many challenges this year but we were always absolutely determined to organise Walk the Wight because it is so important to us.

“To everyone who has come forward, and to those already volunteering on the day, thank you so much.”

The walk starts at Bembridge at 6am on Sunday (12).

People can sign up on the day between 6am and 8am.

Walkers preferring to walk the second half can register at Carisbrooke between 8am and 12pm or the Flat Walk at Sandown from 8am till 10am.
