Age UK Here For Islanders Experiencing Loneliness At Christmas

Age UK Isle of Wight is urging residents on the Island to spread the message against loneliness this Christmas.

According to the charity, one million adults in the UK say they feel lonelier than ever at Christmas time - and as a result of the pandemic, the crisis has intensified.

Feeling lonely doesn't always mean that you have no one nearby, sometimes people can be surrounded by friends and family but still feel lonely.

If you are lonely, your local charity Age UK Isle of Wight is there to support you.

They know that the effects of loneliness and isolation can be as harmful to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

Loneliness is associated with depression, sleep problems, hypertension, impaired cognitive health, heightened vascular resistance, psychological stress, and mental health problems.

Their annual campaign supported by Megan Baker Estate Agents, is entitled is ‘No One Should Have No One’.

They are asking for support of monetary donations to help to fund our social isolation services or for donations of time - our befriending scheme, currently at its highest demand, is in need of volunteer support to help to relieve local loneliness, (this can be done in person or by telephone).

100% of all donations stay on the Island helping Age UK Isle of Wight to support our older residents, not only at Christmas, but all year round.

If you are lonely it is important to take steps to try and make new connections.

Your local charity Age UK Isle of Wight can help you take this first step. Phone (01983) 525282 or visit www.ageukiw.org.uk today.
