Age UK Isle of Wight has paid homage to its volunteers as part of the charity's 50th anniversary celebrations.
A tea party was held at Arreton's Haseley Manor yesterday (Thursday) in honour of those people who give up their time to help the charity.
Geoff Reid, Chair of the Age UK Isle of Wight's Board of Trustees, said:
"Our volunteers are the cornerstone of this charity and without them it wouldn't exist.
"As a small Island charity our volunteers are so important to every aspect of what we do."
Tributes were paid by trustees and luminaries, while the event was supported by Haseley Manor owners Anthony and Vivian Roberts and Rouse Financial Planning.
Dawn Haig-Thomas, High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, attended the event.
She told Isle of Wight Radio:
"I've been aware of Age UK for a number of years and know what a fantastic organisation it is.
"The volunteers are the heart of the organisation, without them there would not be the outreach into the community."
Volunteers who attended were given a special raffle ticket, with a host of exciting prizes up for grabs.
They were given a lengthy and hearty ovation for their relentless commitment to Age UK IW.
Maria Bunce, Chief Operating Officer at Age UK IW, said:
"Volunteering is at the core of what a charity is, and our volunteers' support and willingness to give their time enables us to deliver our mission and core values.
"They can turn their hands to anything — befriending, tending gardens, supporting with form filling and much more besides — they're amazing.
"People often have the misapprehension that we only work with old people, but we work with all ages and welcome anyone to join as a volunteer."
Those interested in volunteering with Age UK IW can do so online, by calling 525282 or visiting the charity's HQ based at 147 High Street in Newport.
