The whole of Ryde is currently subject to a dispersal order, as police investigate Saturday's violence that involved an officer reportedly being attacked.
Police took the special powers at 5.55pm yesterday (July 24) after arresting four people in connection with disorder on the Esplanade.
They said the group was detained as officers investigated a "public order incident" at around 5pm outside the Pavilion Bar.
The dispersal order, under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, gives police the power to order a person to leave, and not return to the area, for a 48 hour period.
Refusal to comply with the order is a criminal offence.
Those under 16 will be taken be to their home address, and officers added that follow-up work will be done with parents.
Those arrested are:
- a 28-year-old man from Carisbrooke and a 26-year-old man from Wotton, on suspicion of affray.
- a 27-year-old man from Ryde, on suspicion of affray and theft, and
- a 32-year-old man from Newport, on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and possession of a Class B drug.
All four men remained in custody at 11am on Sunday morning.
The order was put in place at 5.55pm and will last 48 hours until 5.55pm on Monday evening (26 July).
But police said they would "continue to review this" and, if necessary, a further dispersal order may be put in place once this one has ended.
