Ryde Academy’s Student Council organised its annual food collection this month.
Donations were handed to Aspire Ryde — a community hub which supports families during times of financial difficulty.
Students were given the incentive of winning house points for the most items donated, with an impressive total of 382 items collected.
The final results
- First place: Red House won with 186 items of food donated.
- Second place: Blue House collected 106 items.
- Third place: Yellow House collected 97 items.
- Fourth place: Green House collected 93 items.
Steve Johnson from Aspire, who came to collect the donations, said:
"Thank you to all the students, families and staff who donated to Aspire.
"This will help us continue the work we do with the community, especially over Christmas when many families struggle and Covid has added pressures."
Joy Ballard, Ryde Academy principal, added:
"As with previous years, we are genuinely moved by the generosity of our students, their parents, our staff and others connected with our school.
"The amount we received this year is more than double what was collected previously and is a sign of our community recognition that so many families are going to have a tough Christmas this year.
"We honestly cannot thank them enough."
