Work is underway to pump away raw sewage which has flooded parts of a footpath in Appley.
A problem with Southern Water’s pump is the cause, according to the Isle of Wight Council.
Major works are already underway along the seafront after a sink hole appeared in January.
At the time, Southern Water confirmed the mains sewer below the surface collapsed.
Extra fencing is in place, along with pumps to redirect waste while the repair works commence.
It’s believed a failure with the sewage pipe is to blame for sewage leaking on the path.
It is now being pumped away and contaminated sand is being removed from the beach.
UPDATE: Water on the upper path is being pumped away, and contaminated sand from the beach has been moved off. Our sand-levelling programme due to start tomorrow (Monday) will still go ahead. Appley park and beach remain largely open and accessible.
