Armed Officers Arrest 16 Year Old Following Weapons Incident In East Cowes

Police on the Isle of Wight say a teenage boy has been arrested after an incident involving armed officers in East Cowes yesterday (Monday).

Multiple emergency resources from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service went to York Avenue at around 6pm yesterday - with nearby businesses forced to close as cordons were erected.

Additional mainland officers were drafted in to support the operation after reports were received of concerns for a 16 year old boy.

A spokesperson said:

“We were called at 5.50pm yesterday evening (Monday 28 August) to a report of the concern for the welfare of a 16-year-old boy at an address on York Avenue, East Cowes.

“Officers attended and various weapons, including a knife and an air gun, were seen."

After several hours, the boy was retrieved from the property and arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill. A knife and air gun were seized.
