Armistice Day: Ryde Academy Pupils Use Poems And Art To Remember Fallen

Poems and artwork have been created by Ryde Academy students as part of a day of commemorations to mark Armistice Day.

A remembrance service and a minute's silence was also organised by the Pell Lane school's student council.

Council chairs, Amy Greenwell and Carmen Menzies, raised the flag, while Year 11 pupil Harry Sheppard played 'The Last Post'.

Sasha Ringer, one of our Lead Prefects, read out a poem.

A competition was also held, where students were invited to create either a poem or a piece of art that best represents the significance of remembrance day.

The History department chose the first, second and third place winners.

Year 9's Lillian Stafford came first, joint second was Year 7's Lola Brace and Year 11's Brandon Williams, and third place was Bea Hughes-Hallett from Year 7.
