Award-Winning Ventnor Hotel On Mission To Prioritise Isle Of Wight Residents

The owners of an acclaimed Ventnor hotel have vowed to put Island residents first when it comes to summer stays.

Despite only opening in August 2022, The Terrace Rooms & Wine — a hotel, wine shop and wine bar in the iconic St Augustine Villa — has already scooped the Silver Listing Award from Star Wine list (in February.)

In such a historic building so central to Ventnor’s landscape, owners Tom and Ashley Fahey, who also operate The Terrace in Yarmouth, are committed to ensuring Island residents are prioritised.

Stringently avoiding Booking.com and TripAdvisor has seen the property’s reputation grow slowly by word of mouth in local circles.

A further move to benefit Islanders has seen early-week space offered at reduced rates to residents.

The hotel, the result of a historically-sensitive one-year renovation in partnership with Yarmouth’s Acorn Interiors and Vivus Interior Design, is offering a 25% discount to any Island resident who books to stay on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, all year round.

With a wine library on site featuring more than 500 bottles at affordable price points, all bookings come with a free nightly wine tasting at 6pm and
a 4-course breakfast.

Tom explains:

"We have been so surprised at the number of “staycation” visitors we’ve had since opening, almost 70% of our guests live on the Island, a figure we expected to be far lower, but it’s something we absolutely embrace and wish to continue.

"St Augustine is a historic asset to Ventnor and the Island and I’m just so happy Islanders can continue to enjoy it."

Ashley adds:

‘I’m not sure if it’s the wine element of what we do or the Ventnor micro-climate that’s attracted so many Island-residents, but we have absolutely loved meeting fellow-Islanders in our sunny pergola and sharing a taste of our unique wine library with them.

"Of course, it does almost feel like going abroad when you head down to Ventnor, and – even better - it avoids the cost of ferries.

"It’s so beautiful here, we just really want Islanders to be able to take advantage.”

The hotel has six rooms all with sea-views, and although the main five rooms are adults only, the newly renovated annex room, with its private entrance, can accommodate both children and dogs.
