Bakery And Pizza Restaurant Planned For Wootton High Street

From the smell of clean clothes to the smell of fresh bread — a former launderette in Wootton is set for a new slice of life.

Plans have been unveiled to transform the washing facility on Wootton High Street, next to Mediterranean restaurant Cibo, into a bakery and pizza restaurant.

The application has been made to the Isle of Wight Council by Paula White, to bring the empty commercial building back into use.

In documents submitted in favour of the application, planning agent Andrew White said no other food products but bread and pizza would be cooked on the premises.

Internally, the current plant room would be converted into a kitchen with preparation and washing-up areas and an electric oven.

The former launderette area could be laid out as a restaurant, with seats for 20 customers, but also a sales area for bread.

The front of the building would undergo a makeover but marry up with the existing Cibo frontage — with matching timber framing and vertical timber board cladding.

The agent said the proposal would complement the existing range of services available in the village and add to the vitality and vibrancy in Wootton.

It is thought the bakery and pizza restaurant would create four jobs.

You can view the application, 22/01378/FUL, on the council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until September 12.
