Beavers On The Isle Of Wight? Public Consultation Set To Launch

Islanders are to be asked their opinion on plans to introduce beavers to the Isle of Wight.

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is proposing releasing the aquatic mammals to the Eastern Yar in 2023.

It follows a feasibility research study which found the habitat would suit them well.

It's hoped they can be officially released into an open area, rather than fenced enclosures. The Trust has been discussing options with landowners and next week it plans to launch a public consultation.

A license will need to be submitted to Natural England before the beavers can be released.

In the questionnaire, which is set to be sent to Island homes, residents will be asked for their views ahead of any potential release.

It can also be filled out online, here.
