The body of a man has been recovered from the water in Cowes.
A multi-agency operation, including coastguard teams and the police was launched in Cowes yesterday (Sunday).
Cowes RNLI lifeboat was part of an extensive search for a man whose personal belongings were found on the beach at Browndown, near Gosport on Saturday (January 30).
A search lasted several hours and also involved the HM Coastguard helicopter, Bembridge, Ventnor and The Needles Coastguard Rescue Teams, Calshot RNLI, Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue and the police helicopter.
The family of missing 68 year old, Peter Arthur, from Lee-on-the-Solent has been made aware of the discovery.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
"Officers searching for missing Peter Arthur from Lee-on-the-Solent have this afternoon found a body.
"Formal identification has not yet taken place, but his family have been informed and are being supported by officers.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
