Needles Coastguard and a bomb disposal team were tasked to Compton beach this afternoon (Sunday) after reports of an unidentified explosive device.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team originally received the call the previous evening, but had to wait until today for the tides to allow them to resolve the issue.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said:
"The object was located and blown up by the EOD team today, although it has not yet been confirmed what it was.
"The area has now been made secure."
