Bookings Open For Winter COVID Booster Appointments

Appointments are now available for those who are vulnerable on the Island and want a winter COVID vaccine booster.

New slots are available at the Riverside Centre in Newport over the next two weeks.

Riverside and St Mary's are not a walk-in clinics. You need to book by calling 119 between 7am and 11pm daily, or online https://orlo.uk/CltAc

You can currently book an autumn booster if you had your last dose at least three months ago and are:

  • Aged 65 or over
  • Pregnant
  • Aged 5 and over and at high risk due to a health condition
  • Aged 5 and over and at high risk because of a weakened immune system
  • Aged 16 and over and lives with someone who has a weakened immune system
  • Aged 16 and over and is a carer, either paid or unpaid
  • A frontline health and social care worker

People aged 50 to 64 years old who are not in any of these groups will be able to get an autumn booster later this autumn.

Remember:

  • People aged 50 to 64 years old who are not in any of these groups above will be able to get an autumn booster later this autumn.
  • Cancel or rearrange any appointments you can't make. If you have booked through the national booking system, please rearrange or cancel your appointment through the same site. If an appointment has been made through a GP or pharmacy directly, it should be cancelled or rearranged through them.
  • If you have recently had a confirmed COVID infection, you should wait four weeks before getting your booster if you’re aged 18 years or over.
  • Walk-in clinics with limited capacity on a first-come-first-served basis. These are advertised in areas local to the clinics to make sure those communities can access them if needed.
  • Community pharmacies will be offering bookable appointments for vaccination through the national booking system

Dr Michele Legg, GP at Tower House Surgery and Partner Member from Primary Care at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board (ICB), said:

“We would urge everyone to remember there will be plenty of opportunities to boost your immunity ahead of winter.

"On the Island, GPs have been messaging to invite registered patients to get vaccinated at their practice. This is being done in order of clinical priority alongside practices helping vaccinate care home staff and residents. If you are yet to hear from your GP, please don’t worry. They will be in touch.

"We know that some residents have had difficulty finding appointments through the national booking service. More appointments are being added for you to get jabbed at a community pharmacy or other local clinics as well.

"Please keep checking back if you would prefer to not wait to get invited by your practice. We have vaccine on the Island, so you do not need to make an appointment on the mainland."
