Broadlea Primary School Youngsters Take On Challenge To Help COVID Patients

Youngsters at Broadlea Primary School are taking on a mountain challenge in a bid to raise money for charity.

Year 2 Starfish class at the Lake school decided they wanted to raise money for people in St Mary's Hospital suffering with coronavirus, who can't see their friends and families.

They want to raise enough money to buy a tablet device to enable the patients to FaceTime or video call from their hospital bed.

The children were inspired after watching an assembly about a boy who climbed the distance of a mountain to raise money to buy some devices.

Teacher, Zoey Breingan, told Isle of Wight Radio:

"We are going to run the distance of going up Mount Everest (40 miles) over a 3 week period in the hope that we raise enough money to buy St Mary’s hospital some devices for COVID patients to FaceTime their loved ones.

"The children attending school at the moment will be running laps of the playground whilst the other children in Starfish class will be running around their garden or outdoor space. It's going to be a real class team effort!

"These children are only six and seven years old and we are so proud of them already for wanting to do something like this for others. So please help us to be even prouder of them by donating any spare change you have."

You can donate to support the children here.
