Buoys are going to be installed to protect swimmers at both Totland Bay and a section of Colwell Bay.
As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, Freshwater Parish Council submitted an application for them to deter powered crafts like jet skis and rigid inflatable boats from entering the area of water.
Totland Parish Council will be installing marker buoys at Widdick Chine and to the west of Colwell Bay from the slipway.
There will also be launching buoys off the Colwell Slipway - which is separate from the safe swimming buoys on the east section of Colwell.
It’s hoped the move will ensure that boats are moored at a safe distance and swimmers are safe within the zone and although they are different solutions the aim is the same - to prevent crafts from mooring inshore and protect swimmers.
The buoys, which have been approved by Trinity House, will be heavy-duty yellow marine compliant buoys that are anchored and chained.
At Widdick Chine they will be tethered and roped together to form a barrier.
