Christ The King College Hosts Isle Of Wight's First Equality And Rights Conference

Carisbrooke's Christ the King College hosted the inaugural Equality and Rights Advocates conference for Isle of Wight Secondary Schools today (Thursday).

Members of the school were joined by staff and student representatives from Cowes Enterprise College, Ryde and Upper Chine School, Medina College, The Bay and Carisbrooke College.

Students were given a talk by Rights, Diversity and Social Justice Education adviser Minnie Moore.

Daiana Szegedi, Bella McGrory-Patton, Aurora Tout-Walters, Lianne Ponferrada, Emily Kirby and Amy Cox spoke about issues ranging from ableism to racism.

Students also received feedback from Victoria Paris and Jess Darroll regarding last year's IW Public Health student survey.

The schools were joined by student representatives from Brighton Hill School in Basingstoke, who spoke about advocacy work and initiatives they have implemented.

Assistant Principal, Hayley Conway-Hughes, said:

"It was fascinating to find out more about the student experience across the county.

"Christ the King College EARA group representatives spoke passionately about their experiences in school and the changes they want to make in order to promote inclusivity."

It was a fabulous event and we look forward to the next conference in the New Year.

We're hugely proud of the contribution our students are making to improve the lived experience of young people in education."
