Two casualties with 'serious medical needs' have been airlifted to mainland hospitals following an incident last night off Totland Bay (Saturday).
As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, emergency services were called after a boat appeared to have run aground, shorty before 9pm.
The incident was treated as serious, due to multiple casualties, including walking wounded.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said:
“Yarmouth Lifeboat transferred four injured people into the care of rescue teams and paramedics, while the Coastguard helicopter took two casualties to the mainland for further care in hospital.”
The incident has since been scaled back, although ongoing enquiries, including scene preservation, are continuing.
Police and ambulance teams attended, along with a Coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-Solent, a lifeboat from Yarmouth and rescue teams from Ventnor and The Needles.
The boat in question — a Sealine S330 motor cruiser named 'Sully' — is valued at around £200,000.
