Chance To Learn About Potential New Marine Hub For The Isle Of Wight - Centred On East Cowes

People on the Isle of Wight are invited to find out more about what could happen in the East Cowes waterfront area, and to bring forward ideas and suggestions, following the award of £5.8 million of Government 'levelling-up' money.

With support from the Isle of Wight Council and East Cowes Town Council, proposals are being drawn up to improve the waterfront area of the town.

This significant national funding package is to support projects centred on East Cowes waterfront.

One idea suggested is to create a new marine hub for the Island.

This includes improvements to the landmark Columbine Building - home of the famous 'Union Flag' doors - to help protect and grow jobs in the marine sector.

Also, there could be renovation of the historic Victorian barracks building to expand the marine skills training and education provided by UKSA.

There could also be improvements to the public outdoor spaces at Albany Green that will generate an enhanced entrance to the historic East Cowes Esplanade.

A public drop-in exhibition will be held at the Columbine Building today (Friday) and tomorrow.

Council staff will be on hand to talk about the ideas that have already come forward, and listen to suggestions.

By arrangement with the Classic Boat Museum, anyone attending the consultation can also have free access to the recently refurbished museum.
