'Clap For Tom' To Be Held In Honour Of NHS Hero Captain Sir Tom Moore

People on the Isle of Wight are being encouraged to show their respect for Captain Sir Tom Moore, who died yesterday (Tuesday), with a round of applause at 6pm this evening.

Boris Johnson is encouraging the nation to join in with a national clap for Captain Sir Tom Moore and healthcare workers.

The Second World War veteran, who inspired the nation in lockdown by raising tens of millions of pounds for the NHS, died at the age of 100 on Tuesday morning after contracting COVID, his family said.

To mark his memory, a minute's silence took place in the House of Commons before Prime Minister's Questions at noon to honour him and all victims of the pandemic.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised Sir Tom's fundraising efforts and said his was a "life well lived" and that he "inspired the very best in us all".
