An Isle of Wight Tourist Attraction says it may have to close because of the 'significant impact' caused by a footpath closure in Shanklin.
The management of Shanklin Chine believe the closure of Chine Hollow could affect footfall to the attraction during what is ordinarily the busiest time of the year.
A closure was brought in last week - apparently without notice to residents and businesses. It follows the collapse of a retaining wall along the walkway last year.
It's understood that another wall along the path is also at risk of collapse and measures have been undertaken to support it. The footpath had remained open with fencing around the hazardous areas - until last week.
Island Roads says one of the walls is privately owned and that discussions are underway between the Isle of Wight Council and its owner regarding the repairs.
A spokesperson said:
"As soon as the site is made safe or we can confirm the support is sufficient, then we will, of course, be able to re-open this footpath."
We're reminded we can still access the Chine from the Esplanade.
