Community Fund Boost For Innovative School Library Bus Project

Pupils at St Helens Primary School are to benefit from improvements to their specially-created library bus - thanks to a financial boost from Southern Vectis.

The bus operator donated one of its buses to the school in 2017. It was then filled with books and has been used ever since, as a resource for youngsters in all years to browse and enjoy.

Now, six years on, the school has received an additional donation from Southern Vectis’ popular community fund, and this will be used to make improvements to the bus.

“We are so grateful to Southern Vectis for all the support they gave us with our exciting library bus project back in 2018 - and now they are gifting us £500 to make some extra improvements,” said St Helens Primary School headteacher, Carl Wake.

“The bus, located a few metres from our main building, houses many of our reading books and is a great resource which the children love to use.

“The whole school community would like to thank Southern Vectis for recognising the value of our reading area as we inspire pupils to read more and generate a love of learning.”

Simon Moye, Southern Vectis operations manager, added:

“We were delighted to be able to donate one of our buses back in 2017, to be converted into a special library.

"It’s great that it is still being put to such good use, and we’re only to pleased to continue supporting this remarkable project through our community fund.”

The Southern Vectis Community Fund is open to everyone, from charities to sports teams.

Applications are welcomed during two months of the year - May and November.
