Newport High Street has this afternoon (Thursday) been cordoned off as a result of an incident at a property above a shop.
Police and fire crews have attended the scene after receiving a concern for welfare call-out at around 3.20pm.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed:
"We are responding to concerns raised for the welfare of a man at an address on the High Street, Newport.
"The incident is ongoing and there is no wider risk to the public."
