Coronavirus: 79 Year Old Man Dies At St Mary's Hospital

There's been another death at St Mary's Hospital after the Islander tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, the 79-year-old man died on Wednesday.

St Mary's Hospital has now recorded 49 deaths, as a result of the virus.

It takes the total number of deaths on the Island in hospital, since the start of the pandemic to 48.

Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows that 45 people have died in care homes here.

Three people have passed away at home and one person at Mountbatten hospice.

Overall, the total number of people to have passed away on the Island after contracting COVID-19 is 97.

As previously reported, another death linked to COVID-19 was recorded earlier this week.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust said:

'Sadly, we recorded our 49th death here at St. Mary’s on 25 November 2020 of a patient that tested positive for COVID-19. The patient was a 79 year old male. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.'
