Coronavirus: Cowes Among Isle Of Wight Areas With Highest Case Numbers

Latest data shows the areas with the highest and lowest coronavirus case rates on the Isle of Wight.

In the week to August 10, Cowes West, Gurnard and Northwood topped the list with 48 cases. That is a 166.7% rise compared with the previous week, when there were 30 cases fewer.

The Government's interactive map shows the seven–day rolling rate of new infections, per 100,000 people.

Cowes recently welcomed visitors for the annual Cowes Week Regatta, between July 31 and August 6. A number of businesses in the town have since announced closures due to staff self-isolating.

Elsewhere on the Island, there were 29 cases recorded in Newport Central and Parkhurst West during the seven-day period - a rise of 15 compared to the previous week.

With seven cases recorded, Shanklin West and Newchurch has the lowest COVID rates on the Island.


Isle of Wight turns dark blue

The Isle of Wight as a whole has seen case rates rise. In the last seven-days 335 cases were recorded here, turning the Island dark blue on the Government map.

Yesterday (Sunday), 126 cases were recorded on the Isle of Wight. In total, 294 people have died on the Island with COVID-19.

Meanwhile, new self-isolation rules have now come into force across England. People who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 will no longer have to stay at home, though they will be encouraged to take a PCR test.
