Coronavirus: Five New Positive Tests Confirmed On Isle Of Wight

Five new positive coronavirus tests have been recorded on the Isle of Wight today (Wednesday).

According to official figures, it takes the total to 976 since the start of the pandemic.

As previously reported, yesterday (Tuesday) the Island recorded just one additional case.

Earlier the Island's MP Bob Seely confirmed the Island is on the 'priority list' for receiving the coronavirus vaccine, which has been approved today.

It has been given the go-ahead by the health regulator MHRA, with studies showing the jab is 95 per cent effective and works in all age groups.

The government has secured 40 million doses of the vaccine, which needs to be refrigerated at -70C (-94F).

Ten million doses are expected in the UK by the end of the year and patients need two each.

  • Wash your hands often and for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser regularly.
  • Wear a face-covering where appropriate.
  • Keep space from other people; 2 metres or at least 1 metre apart.

If you or someone you know, displays any symptoms, no matter how mild, the council is urging you to get a free test by calling 119 or visiting NHS.uk

The council has also produced a self-isolation toolkit to help people prepare to self-isolate if they need to.
