Coronavirus: Slight Rise In Isle Of Wight Case Numbers

A further six cases of coronavirus have been recorded on the Isle of Wight - but there has been a big fall in the number of new positive tests across the UK.

Nationally, the figure is down to 11,299. There have been a further 608 deaths UK-wide, however.

After today's (Tuesday's) rise, the Island's total - since the pandemic started - has reached 934.

306 cases have been recorded on the Isle of Wight in November alone.

The cases are from people registered on the Isle of Wight.

University students still registered with their GP on the Island, but living on the mainland, may influence data should they test positive for COVID-19, as Isle of Wight Radio previously reported.

The Prime Minister has  announced England will return to the tiered system of restrictions when lockdown ends next week (December 2).

The Isle of Wight Council leader says he "anticipates" the Island will fall into the Government's Tier 1 category of coronavirus restrictions.

The Isle of Wight Council is advising us to follow the government guidelines: hands, face, space.

  • Wash your hands often and for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser regularly.
  • Wear a face-covering where appropriate.
  • Keep space from other people; 2 metres or at least 1 metre apart.

If you or someone you know, displays any symptoms, no matter how mild, the council is urging you to get a free test by calling 119 or visiting NHS.uk

The council has also produced a self-isolation toolkit to help people prepare to self-isolate if they need to.
