The Isle of Wight Council has released a statement regarding a Pilot Whale discovered on West Wight beach at the weekend.

The 10-foot long mammal was put to sleep and recovered after becoming stranded on the beach at Brook on Saturday (October 5) morning.

Due to complications around the high tide, the Isle of Wight Council’s recovery team was initially unable to recover the body of the whale.

However, Sunday morning saw the Council confirm that the mammal had been successfully recovered.

The whale was located in a difficult to reach beach area. The contractor was able to recover the whale and transported it up the beach to an accessible location.

The whale will then be transported to the mainland later today and transferred to the cetacean stranding investigation project, who will be investigating this sad stranding alongside the two others in Essex this week.

An investigator from The National Zoological Society will keep the council updated on the outcome of the investigation.
