The Island's Coronavirus testing centre — which has been located at Newclose Cricket Ground since August 2020 — has closed, following the latest change in Government advice.
Free testing ended for most people in England on April 1, with the Government moving towards a 'common sense approach' for those with Coronavirus symptoms.
The latest guidance from the Isle of Wight Council, via keeptheislandsafe.org, states:
"If you have symptoms of a respiratory infection, including COVID-19, and a high temperature or feel unwell, please try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people. Only get back to your normal activities when you feel well enough and you no longer have a high temperature.
"If you have a positive COVID-19 test result you should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for five days, which is when you are most infectious."
Certain keyworkers are still eligible for free PCR testing by post. To find out if you qualify, visit https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
Alternatively, lateral flow tests can be purchased in pharmacies and shops across the Island. Private PCR testing is also available.
People feeling unwell are advised to get help if they need it, by contacting the Isle of Wight COVID-19 helpline on 01983 823600.
