They were called out late last night after a loud bang was reported in Newport Quay.
Cowes RNLI lifeboat was involved in two late-night incidents in the River Medina yesterday (Sunday) , the last night of the river-side Isle of Wight Music Festival at Newport.
After checking on a man diving into the shallow water near Newport Rowing Club just after 11pm, the crew were preparing to go off shift when they were called out to Newport Quay along with the Coastguard.
Two rigid inflatable boats had collided with a loud bang. On arrival the lifeboat crew discovered that one side of the larger craft with ten people on board had been damaged.
The damaged craft was duly escorted to a pontoon below a house close to the Island Sailing Club at Cowes amid fears it would take in water.
The lifeboat finally returned to station at 1 am this morning.
