Cowes RNLI Lifeboat Aids Fire-Damaged Motor Cruiser

The motor cruiser pictured alongside Trinity Landing and after being towed to safety by Cowes lifeboat.

A fire aboard a 35 foot motor cruiser with a man and a woman aboard led to a cross Solent dash by Cowes RNLI lifeboat today (Thursday).

The alarm was raised when the craft was south of East Bramble Bouy. When the lifeboat arrived on the scene they found that the fire, believed to be of electrical origin, had already been extinguished by the crew, using two on-board extinguishers.

Lifeboat crew members went aboard to carry out their own check. With engine out of use, the cruiser, which was based in Langstone Harbour, was then taken in tow by the lifeboat to Trinity Landing, Cowes.

There it was met by Island firemen and Needles coastguards.

Having launched at 10.35 am the lifeboat returned to station over an hour later.
