A man has appeared in court in connection with a hate crime allegation on the Isle of Wight.
Police received a report that on the evening of November 10, a man was pushed to the floor on Ryde High Street and subjected to racist abuse.
It’s alleged that the victim was then further assaulted.
Lachen Connor Downs, aged 23, of no fixed abode, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday).
At the hearing, he was further remanded to appear at the Crown Court on January 4, 2022.
