Isle of Wight Radio listeners say an engine on one of the foot passenger-only vessels 'overheated' on route to Southampton.

Passengers have been told that attempts to restart the engine reportedly failed, with the ship's other engines being relied on to get them to the mainland.

The 'technical issue' was reported on the 10.15am sailing from Cowes, which has only just docked.

Red Funnel says there are currently delays of up to 15 to 30 minutes.

We've asked the firm for a statement.

Red Funnel has only this morning restored its full car ferry service.

Yesterday, the East Cowes to Southampton route was down to one ferry, as Isle of Wight Radio previously reported

*A Red Funnel spokesperson says its Red Jet service is 'almost' running to timetable again.

"There were some slight delays this morning but Red Funnel has since made those up and is almost back running to timetable.

"It was caused by a Red Jet that made a slower crossing back to Southampton."
