The Isle of Wight's Wildheart Animal Sanctuary has revealed more details about its new Primate Rescue Facility.

Once completed, the centre will feature two giant domes built from over 2km of bamboo poles.

It will give primates at the sanctuary access to a 12-metre-high rainforest canopy.

One of the domes will be open to visitors allowing them to take a walk through trail in and among the sanctuary’s primates and see the animals up close.

The new facility is expected to open in May this year.

Meanwhile, the sanctuary is offering Isle of Wight businesses the chance to help build it.

For £500, they're being invited to sponsor one of the 100 straw bails, which will make up the outer walls of the animal house within the facility.

Lawrence Bates, Chief Operating Officer at the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, said:

“We think it is a fantastic offer that we believe will really appeal to island businesses. The actual value of the package is over £700 so it is a fantastic deal and a way to reward staff by giving them great days out at our sanctuary with their families.

“There will be no building quite like this in Europe and sponsoring one of the bails of straw will also allow their company and employees to become part of the very fabric of the sanctuary and this very special project. Perhaps most importantly they will also be helping to conserve and protect primates suffering from horrendous conditions around the world.”

Included in the package are ten free family day passes, five complimentary memberships and ten invitations to the opening ceremony in May which will be hosted by Chris Packham.

In addition, each company’s name will be immortalised on the Primate Rescue Facility Honours Board and all their employees will have their photograph uploaded to a giant Lemur photograph mosaic which will be displayed outside the facility.

The sanctuary will also be hosting a Perfect Primate Competition where one lucky company will win a Lifetime Free Membership at the sanctuary for all their staff.

If your company would like to sponsor one of the hundred bails of straw please email the sanctuary on [email protected] or call 01983 403883 Ext 122 and ask to speak with Matthew Riches.
