Digital Radio Licence Awarded To Isle Of Wight Company

Ofcom has today (Tuesday) awarded a new DAB radio multiplex licence covering the Isle of Wight to local community interest group Wight Digital Radio CIC.

Wight Digital Radio is made up of the Island's long-established commercial station, Isle of Wight Radio, and local community station Vectis Radio.

Isle of Wight Radio is part of the Total Sense Media Group and enjoys a monthly audience of 60,000 listeners*.

In addition to broadcasting to the Island for the past 34 years, Isle of Wight Radio is home to The Toy Appeal and Child of Wight Awards.

Vectis Radio, an Ofcom licenced community radio station launched as an online-only station in January 2010, began broadcasting on FM in November 2017.

Vectis Radio is home to the 4P’s project, an award-winning initiative to help young people develop their confidence, communication skills and self esteem.

The team at Wight Digital Radio said:

“We are delighted Ofcom has chosen to award the DAB licence for the Island to an Island-based organisation.

"We aim to have our proposed service on the air during 2025 and it will have the capacity to bring more than twenty new and existing radio stations to DAB, delivering a choice of creative content to the vibrant and loyal radio audience on the Island.

“While we have a number of interested parties eager to provide content for DAB here, we are still happy to talk you through the process of launching a new station, be it a commercial or community station.”
