Dinosaur Footprint Discovered On Isle Of Wight Beach

A 125 million-year-old dinosaur footprint has been discovered on an Isle of Wight beach.

Dinosaur Isle said the footprint was uncovered on the foreshore at Yaverland and measures around 50cm.

Posting on Facebook, the Sandown museum said the image shows the dinosaur was travelling in a south westerly direction.

This magnificent dinosaur footprint is currently exposed in the foreshore at Yaverland. The dinosaur was travelling in a southwesterly direction approximately 125 million years ago.

It's estimated it happened around 125 million years ago.

It's been 20 years since the museum opened, and to mark the occasion a new guidebook to the Isle of Wight's fossils has been published.

Dinosaur Isle's Dr Martin Munt said:

“This book has only been possible because of 200 years of fossil collectors, museum staff and volunteers supporting the museum and believing that our world class fossil heritage should stay here where it belongs on the Island. The book has been written for the general reader, and we provide a glossary of the technical terms to help with understanding.”
