Early morning commuters have been met with lengthy diversion routes as works at the Graben in Ventnor get underway this morning (Monday).
Southern Water is working to fix an underground sewer on the stretch of road between Upper and Lower Ventnor, with diversions for those heading in and out of town in place for around two weeks.
With just one route left in and out of the town due to the ongoing closure of Leeson Road following a landslip, drivers are now having to travel via Whitwell Road.
A one way system is now also in place forcing those heading towards Ventnor to travel via Godshill and Whitwell, and those heading out of Ventnor to divert via Niton and Chale.
It's been confirmed that pedestrian access through the Graben will be maintained at all times and there are seperate public transport arrangements.
Southern Vectis will run the 3X service between Newport and Ventnor alongside Route 6 buses. Route 3 will only serve as far as the Island Free School. For full bus information, head to the operator's website.
