A dog has died after getting into trouble in the water off Shanklin Esplanade.
Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue teams were called out just before 1pm.
Two people were said to have gone in to rescue the pet.
Despite attempts to resuscitate the dog, it sadly died after being brought ashore.
A spokesperson from the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat said:
"Any loss at sea is heart breaking, our condolences go out to the owners of the pup that lost its life today.
"As most of the crew have canine family members, it’s a bitter pill to swallow for us all."
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance were also called to check two people over.
