Emergency teams - including coastguards, police and the ambulance service - were called after two people were spotted in the sea at Shanklin.

Just before 9.30pm last night (Monday) HM Coastguard received a 999 call from a member of the public who saw two people in the water at Shanklin.

Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard rescue teams, Sandown Independent Lifeboat, a coastguard helicopter, Hampshire Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were all sent.

The two people made their own way out of the water and were passed into the care of paramedics.
