Encouraging Start For Island Sides In Wessex League And FA Cup

It was an encouraging start for the Island's three Wessex League sides at the weekend.

Newport won their FA Cup extra quaffing round 3-1 at Fleet Town.

The Wessex League Division One side were always in control and moved through to the next round courtesy of goals from Jordan Browne, Connor Kelly and substitute Finn Smith, who signed for the club only the day before the game, upon reaching his 16th birthday. Newport are away to Stoneham in the next round.

Also, in the FA Cup, Cowes Sports got off to a winning start, beating Hamble Club 1-0, with veteran striker John McKie scoring the only goal just after the hour mark.

There was also an encouraging start to the new season for East Cowes Vics, who took a point from their 2-2 draw with Amesbury Town. Liam Newbold scored both goals for the Island side.
