The government has confirmed it will not reverse its decision to scrap winter fuel payments, a move that will affect around 10 million UK pensioners who do not receive pension credit.
From mid-September, these individuals will lose payments of up to £300, further straining their finances.
Coupled with energy prices set to rise by another 10% this October, many Island residents are increasingly anxious about how they will manage their household budgets as the colder months approach.
One Island resident shared her concerns, saying:
“With the cost of living already so high, the news of another energy price hike is really worrying.
"I’m anxious about keeping our home warm without the bills spiralling out of control.
"We need to cut our energy use, but I don’t know where to start.”
Recognising these widespread concerns, Green Isle of Wight CIC has stepped up to provide practical, accessible support through its EnergyWise service.
This free service offers personalised advice and practical solutions to help households improve energy efficiency and reduce costs.
“EnergyWise is here to help Islanders facing the uncertainty of rising energy bills,” said Lisa Beaney, Managing Director of Green Isle of Wight.
“We understand the worry that comes with these increases, and our goal is to provide peace of mind.
"Through expert advice and practical steps, we’re committed to helping our community take control of their energy use and stay warm this winter without the financial strain.”
When asked about what EnergyWise is, Lisa explained:
“EnergyWise provides a range of free services to help Islanders manage their energy use.
"We offer personalised energy advice, tailored to meet the specific needs of each household.
"Our qualified professionals can also carry out free home energy surveys, including thermal imaging, to identify key areas where you can save energy."
It is understood that Islanders can take advantage of this advice at no cost, thanks to funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
