Plans to open a branch of Europe’s largest shoe retailer on the Isle of Wight have been submitted.
The former H&M store, on South Street, Newport, has been empty since February but could now become a branch of the international shoe chain, Deichmann.
It is hoped to open in Newport in October.
Submitted plans to the Isle of Wight Council show rows of shelves on the ground floor to hold pairs of shoes.
While H&M was spread out over two floors, according to planning documents, Deichmann will only have the ground floor open to customers.
The lift previously used by customers to get upstairs would be blocked off and the customer stairs removed.
The retailer stocks brand favourites including Nike, Adidas, Puma, Fila, Crocs and Levi.
You can view the applications, 23/01477/FUL or 23/01478/ADV, on the Isle of Wight Council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until September 22.
Deichmann is currently recruiting staff.
