E-scooter and e-bike users on the Isle of Wight have been issued with fines after being caught out by old bay markings.
Beryl, the firm behind the scheme, is urging residents to check its map before parking the electric vehicles.
It's confirmed it has removed "a small number of bays", and will give refunds to customers who have fallen foul of recently-removed bay sites.
Despite leaving his e-bike on the pavement in an area marked by Beryl, one Islander reported being fined £10 for parking "out of bay".
He said he was given an immediate refund after flagging the issue to the company.
A spokesperson for Beryl said it's had to remove some bays because they were "not wide and deep enough":
“With Beryl e-bikes and e-scooters now available on the Island, residents have access to an integrated sustainable transport scheme that can help them to save money and improve their health, while reducing road congestion and improving air quality.
“To avoid confusion and keep the scheme as user friendly as possible, we have had to remove a small number of bays that were not wide and deep enough to host e-bikes and e-scooters.
“Sometimes our bays need to be taken out of service for various reasons, such as building work for example, which is why we recommend that riders always check the map beforehand.
“We understand that people may need time to adjust their routines, so we will refund the first out of bay charge to any customer that accidentally left their vehicle in one of the recently removed bay sites.”
As part of its latest trial, Beryl has now rolled out e-bikes around the region.
They will initially be available in Cowes, Newport, and Ryde with the possibility of expanding to other areas next spring.
