A fire in the open was tackled by Freshwater firefighters yesterday (Sunday).
The crew was called to a fire in the open above Totland Pier.
Firefighters said they believe it was started deliberately, in an area that appears to have been set up as a regular meeting place.
Trees had also been deliberately cut down, with various rubbish and debris. Portable knapsacks and beaters were used to extinguish the fire before it had chance to spread. An area measuring approx 3m by 3m was damaged.
Friends of Freshwater Fire Station said:
"As always, we are strongly advising against setting fires anywhere in open public spaces.
"Please help us protect our beautiful countryside."
