Firefighters Called To 'Large Fire' In Ashey

BREAKING: Firefighters have been called to a fire in Ashey, near Ryde, today (Monday).

At least six fire appliances have been called to Ashey Road.

It's understood a barn is well alight.

Green Lane has been closed.

*UPDATED 12.40pm

*A section of Ashey Road has been closed while firefighters deal with the incident. Police are also on scene.

Water carriers from Freshwater and Ventnor are also at the incident, which involves a barn and a tractor - according to the fire service.

Appliances on scene are from Newport, Cowes, East Cowes, Ryde, Sandown, Ventnor and Freshwater.

**Four fire appliances from the mainland have been drafted over to provide extra cover on the Island.

***A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

“We are currently assisting our colleagues at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service with an incident on Ashey Road, Ryde. 

“We were called at 11.48am to a report of a barn on fire. The fire is not being treated as suspicious at this time. 

“Road closures have been put in place at Nunwell, East Ashey and Smallbrook and are expected to be in place for several hours. 

“We would ask you to please avoid the area and find an alternative route while we assist our fire colleagues with this incident.

“For those that live in the Ashey Road area, please stay indoors if you can and keep windows and doors closed this afternoon. 

“We will provide a further update when the road is re-opened or we have any further information to share.”
