Five Take Part In 'DIY' Pier2Pier Swim In Sandown After Being Cancelled Last Weekend

Despite the Pier2Pier Swim being cancelled - five Islanders managed to get together to do the event last week (Wednesday).

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, Shanklin's Peter Clark was hoping to raise funds for The Elizabeth Foundation. The charity supports and diagnoses youngsters and babies with severe hearing impairments.

However, the Pier2Pier event was unable to go ahead last Saturday - putting Peter's fundraiser at risk.

He told Isle of Wight Radio:

"Five of us got together to do an unofficial "DIY Pier2Pier" and swim what would have been the full course...My personal motivation was to fulfil the promise I made to the people who had sponsored me to raise monies for The Elizabeth Foundation...

"I completed the swim in 43 minutes with everyone else completing the course within an hour, which was a great achievement by all concerned."

Peter also raised £390.

Karen, the Deputy CEO, of the Elizabeth Foundation presented Peter with a medal (pictured below).
